Terachrome-Sim is an application program for simulating color mixing, filtering, and rendering based on a software implementation of the Terachrome engine. It is useful for designing and evaluating color capabilities of luminaires and displays, including solid-state LED lighting and LCD filter colors and backlights. The renderings on the color science page were all generated by Terachrome-Sim.

Terachrome-Sim capabilities include:

  1. Light sources with up to 32 emitters (primary colors) per source

  2. Primary colors specifiable by gaussian model or spectral power distribution

  3. Filter sets with up to 32 filters (subpixels) per set

  4. Filters specifiable by gaussian model or spectral absorbance

  5. User library of light sources and filter sets allowing easy creation of multiple variants

  6. Light source and filter combinations for evaluating system gamut, efficacy, etc.

  7. Graphical and numerical “what if” comparisons with real-time updating

  8. Rendering of 2D chromaticity gamut, 3D luminance gamut, device color space, and spectral power/absorbance with real-time updating in response to parameter changes

  9. Simultaneous portrayal of entire gamut for additive and subtractive color mixing while allowing detailed analysis of selected colors

  10. Color selection by chromaticity, hue/saturation/intensity, color temperature, and direct primary drive level

  11. Ganged color selection for real-time comparison of multiple light sources and filter sets

  12. Interface to physical hardware for prototype evaluation using DMX or USB

  13. High precision with 1 nm internal spectrum sample intervals

Terachrome-DLL is a Windows DLL library interface to the Terachrome engine for use within Windows applications. It provides Terachrome optimal color mixing along with other high precision color functions. Libraries and frameworks for other platforms are available.

Terachrome-TableGen is a command-line utility for generating multiple-channel tables for converting between color specifications (e.g. RGB, xyY, Luv, HSI, HSB, etc.) and color mixture levels for light sources and filter sets. The tables are generated as source code which is then compiled for the target environment, which is also responsible for using the tables for the actual color conversion. The Terachrome Demos on this site were created with Terachrome-TableGen and use Javascript table lookup functions. Table lookup source code is available in a variety of programming languages and VHDL for hardware synthesis.
